Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need to bring our own gear for our trip?

We encourage anglers to bring their own rods, reels, and waders.  Most anglers are more comfortable fishing with their own equipment, especially waders and boots due to the fact that they are fit to the individual.  If you don’t have any of this equipment, don’t sweat it, we can supply you with fishing gear as well as all of the camping gear that you’ll need for the trip!  (Keep in mind that our selection of sizes of waders is somewhat limited.)

My wife and I are vegetarians, can you accommodate us?

Of course!  Chef Carlos Montoya writes and designs all of his menus, so he can work with you to adapt the menu to accommodate most needs, whether it is a personal preference or a food allergy.

My buddy and I have never been to New Mexico.  What type of weather should we pack for?

Layering is the key to comfort in New Mexico.  During the summer, the weather is usually warm (in the mid to low 80s) in the daytime.  At night, it can get as cool as 40 degrees.  Please refer to the packing list for an idea of what to bring.

Are there any bathroom facilities in the area where we will be camping?

We bring the equivalent of an outhouse with us on every trip.  That way, we don’t have to compete with other people for the public campsites that are next to the park outhouses.

Can we keep the fish we catch?

The Pecos Rver is for catch-and-release fishing only.  However, if you are craving trout for dinner, let Carlos or Chuck know, and you can fish the lower part of the river.

Do we have to sleep on the ground?

No, the Outdoor Gourmet provides comfortable queen-sized beds that are elevated off of the ground.  We love camping in the great outdoors, but still believe that some comforts (like a good night’s sleep) shouldn’t be sacrificed.
